I was invited by the director of the Eisenhower Library in Abilene, KS in 2012 to speak about my book Witness to History. It was great honor to speak at the presidential library of one of my heroes in military history, General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower. In 2023, I was invited to be interviewed by the Johnson County Kansas Community College for their Veterans Oral History Project. I was one of a small number of Vietnam Veterans to be interviewed for this project. Once again, a singular honor to share my experience with students interested in military history.

On Putin and Nucs

Putin has made several pronouncements about the use of nuclear weapons. While he may not want to risk a loss of face on the conventional battlefield, he may prefer to use nucs than to suffer a humiliating defeat.

One Step Closer to Nuclear War

In a July 2022 report in the weekend edition of the Wall Street Journal it was suggested that the Russians may be willing to “contemplate nuclear first use” with short range (300 mile) small yield, nuclear weapons, even if their country was not under catastrophic attack. Recent developments with Ukrainian forces inside Russia may lower the nuclear threshold.
