Mission Complete
After six years of helping senior military professionals find leadership positions in the private sector, we are shutting down operations. In 2013 when we started the Center for Transitional Leadership (CTL) the Army was downsizing because the Budget Control Act and Sequestration were strangling the military forcing reductions in military strength. Many of our clients we’re being affected by short-notice reductions in force that resulted in early separations and unplanned retirements. The restoration of our military strength by the Trump Administration has reversed this trend. The military is once again expanding to meet myriad challenges, military transition programs are better at serving separating personnel and numerous nonprofits, community groups and companies have stepped up and are providing a range of services that did not exist when we started CTL. As a result, the demand for our services is dwindling. We are pleased to report that over the last six years we served 272 military personnel in the greater Kansas City area who were in the process of transitioning from the military service to private sector employment. Fifteen of our associates found jobs as C-level executives or Vice Presidents in a range of civilian sectors. Over 60 percent secured jobs in the private sector while others have taken positions in the state and federal government workforce. Some even started their own companies.
We will continue to work with our existing clients to fulfill our obligation as their volunteer coaches and mentors, but we will not accept any additional clients. This has been a good run and we’ve all grown in knowledge and expertise in addressing the talent acquisition challenges and processes in the private sector. But, it’s time to move on.
As we wind down operations during the remainder of this year, we thank you for your support, both financial and moral, and wish you a great deal of success. On behalf of my trustees Dan Bozung, Joe Crane, Jeff Givens, Mike Parker, Willard Snyder, Michael Tritt, Terri Ulin, and Mark Wiggins, our president Rolly Dessert, and our senior fellows, Bill Rue and Scott Weaver, I wish each of our associates and the broader transitioning community continued success.
